HSEF Grant Recipient
HSEF Grants Awarded

November 04, 2021

Our music teacher, Mrs. Wijesekera, and our librarian, Mrs. Hicks, were surprised by Dr. Stokes and the Hamilton Southeastern Education Foundation with notification that they were both awarded the fall grants that they applied for through the HSEF.

Mrs. Wijesekera will be using the funds from her grant to purchase percussion instruments from around the world so students have a greater variety of sounds that are representative of the music cultures they are learning about.

Mrs. Hicks will use the funds from her grant to install a StoryWalk called The Roadrunner Tale Trail on the Cumberland Road Elementary campus.  Students will be able to enjoy a story with their classmates or their families while moving through our outdoor Tale Trail.  We will plan to feature student work in our trail as well as published books.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
